COMMUNITY CAPITAL BANK HOLDS TOY DRIVE TO BENEFIT CHILDREN

BROOKLYN, NY–December 22, 2003–Community Capital Bank’s annual toy drive to benefit children at two Brooklyn nonprofit organizations was a success this holiday season  because of the generosity of the bank’s customers and staff members who donated toys.

“The customers were so generous this year it warmed my heart and put me in the spirit of Christmas,” said John Tear, senior vice president of Community Capital Bank. “Every day, when I came back to the branch there were more toys. Also, we took up a collection among the senior officers of the bank and we were able to donate more toys. It was fantastic.”

Community Capital Bank distributed toys to children who receive counseling from Brooklyn Psychiatric Centers’ Louis E. Reinhold Downtown Mental Health Center, located in downtown Brooklyn, and Rose Gelormino STAR Program, an on-site, school-based program in District 15, and the agency’s other centers throughout the borough. The bank also donated toys to children at the Sunset Park Salvation Army.

“We are deeply grateful to Community Capital Bank for getting the community involved in helping us serve the children of Brooklyn,” said Dr. Pamela Straker, president and CEO of Brooklyn Psychiatric Centers.

Brooklyn Psychiatric Centers, which was founded in 1907, provides borough-wide mental health services to Brooklyn’s most vulnerable residents through its clinics in Bushwick, Canarsie, Flastbush-Sheepshead Bay, Williamsburg-Greenpoint, and downtown Brooklyn, and through its on-site, licensed mental health programs located in schools throughout the borough.

Community Capital Bank is a Treasury-designated Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) headquartered in downtown Brooklyn.  It provides banking services to individuals, nonprofits, developers of affordable housing, real estate entrepreneurs, construction firms, and small businesses in all five boroughs of New York City and is the only Brooklyn-based bank that is a preferred lender for the Small Business Administration.
