“We are delighted to be presenting the Judge Robert J. Wilkin Award, named after our agency’s visionary founder, to four individuals in the real estate community who also are visionaries and have contributed so much to Brooklyn’s renaissance,” said Dr. Pamela Straker, president and CEO of Brooklyn Psychiatric Centers. “Our organization is committed to improving the mental and physical health of residents of Brooklyn, while these business leaders are committed to improving the landscape of Brooklyn through their real estate expertise and community service.”

Each year, thousands of children, adults, seniors and their families receive the help they need during more than 60,000 visits to Brooklyn Psychiatric Center’s five community-based clinics in Williamsburg-Greenpoint, Bushwick, Canarsie, Flatbush-Sheepshead Bay, and downtown, on-site programs in the public schools, an outpatient drug and alcohol treatment program, a prevention program serving at-risk children and their families, and senior programs.

Mr. King opened Massey Knakal's Brooklyn office in 2003 on 86th Street in Bay Ridge as its first managing partner. In 2005, Mr. King was named Massey Knakal's first chief operating officer with the responsibility of implementing various sales initiatives in the offices outside Brooklyn to facilitate the firm's growth. In 2007, after serving in management and helping expand the business, he returned to his first love and what he enjoys most, working directly with clients. In the position of senior partner, Mr. King incorporated his 30 years of leasing experience to launch a commercial property leasing business for Massey Knakal's Brooklyn office that broadened the firm's market reach beyond commercial sales.

Mr. King was formerly the director of real estate for Clean Rite Centers, where he helped the company grow from a few locations to more than 30 throughout New York City's five boroughs. Prior to that, he was the manager of the commercial, industrial and investment division at Fillmore Real Estate for 20 years, and began his career in real estate as a project superintendent for the New York City Housing Authority.

Mr. King is the author of numerous articles for professional trade publications and is frequently interviewed by major metropolitan newspapers, trade publications, and TV news shows. He has served as an adjunct professor at the City University of New York, Baruch College and as a real estate instructor in the economics department at Brooklyn College.

A Brooklyn resident, Mr. King is a strong believer in giving back to the borough where he was born and raised and has spent most of his career. He serves as chairman of the board for Nazareth Regional High School, his alma mater; on the boards of the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra, Brookdale Hospital, Montague Street BID; as the Mayor of Montague Street for the Community Mayors of New York; as a member of many professional organizations; and was past president of the Flatbush-Nostrand Chamber of Commerce. A graduate of the MEBA School of Marine Engineering in Brooklyn, Mr. King also held various marine engineering positions in the U.S. Merchant Marine.

Mr. Leary joined Massey Knakal's Brooklyn office when it opened in 2003. Mr. Leary is currently the managing partner of the firm's Brooklyn office and Staten Island division. In 2004, he was named the 10th partner appointed to the company since it was founded in 1988. In 2003, Mr. Leary received Massey Knakal's Stephen B. Seigel Brooklyn Salesman of the Year Award and its Richard Marcinko Award for Tenacity and Loyalty in Pursuit of Excellence.

Mr. Leary began his career by managing a small construction and landscaping business that serviced New York City's five boroughs. He also worked on various large scale construction projects throughout the tri-state area. He was later employed by Bear Stearns and Co. as its vice president of Real Estate and Office Services. Centralized in New York, his department managed space for all domestic and international offices occupied by the firm. He was a member of a project team that developed and built 1.2 million square feet of high-end office space at 383 Madison Ave., serving as Bear Stearns' new world headquarters. After eight years there, he ventured on his own and formed Millennia Realty Services, which provided real estate and construction consulting services to smaller companies without a facilities department.

A native of Brooklyn, Mr. Leary has dedicated himself to community at large and serves as a member of the board for his alma mater, Bishop Ford High School, and for the Irish American Builders Society; was Vice Chair of the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Britannia Ball in May 2007, and has volunteered for the Charles A. Huron Foundation. He is an active member serving frequently as guest panelist and lecturer for the Real Estate Board of New York, the Brooklyn Public Library, and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. He has written for several trade publications including Real Estate Weekly, Northeast Real Estate Magazine and The New York Real Estate Journal.

Mr. Leary graduated from St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn, where he earned his bachelor of science degree in Organizational Management. He also has a graduate diploma in Construction Management from New York University.

Elan Padeh is CEO, president, and founder of The Developers Group. Prior to founding The Developers Group, Mr. Padeh established and operated the development division of The Corcoran Group, Brooklyn.

Mr. Padeh has diverse expertise in all areas of real estate development from condominium conversions, high-end residential renovation, and modeling commercial real estate properties for acquisition. He has overseen the development of some of Brooklyn’s most notable condominium projects including The Smith Gray and The Gretsch Buildings in Williamsburg, The Graham Condos and The Chocolate Factory in Clinton Hill and, most recently, The Bridges in Vinegar Hill.

With more than 12 years in the real estate business, Ms. Padeh has been involved in over a billion dollars in transactions in New York and Florida as a principal, landlord, developer, and consultant in both the residential and commercial markets. He uses his working knowledge of architecture, construction, and marketing to envision, create, and ultimately sell each project.

S. David Behin, Esq., is executive vice president of business development and general counsel for The Developers Group.

Mr. Behin helped found The Developers Group in April of 2003 and works directly for developers, architects, and designers to determine and implement the highest and best use for each site.  With an in-depth knowledge of the Brooklyn and tri-state region, he helps clients choose the proper location, research the neighborhood and potential customers, develop the proper mix and unit layouts, and formulate a unique marketing plan to ensure the highest number of sales.

A graduate of the Fordham University School of Law, Mr. Behin practiced corporate and real estate law for many years prior to becoming a real estate broker.
